Cataracts are very common, and so is the surgery used to address them. Cataract surgery involves replacing the clouded lens of the eye with an artificial one. This artificial lens is referred to as an intraocular lens (IOL) and can not only restore cataract-related vision loss but also help with other vision issues, such as astigmatism.
